Hanging Your Wall Fountain

We’ve all had that moment, when hanging photos or paintings in a new apartment or house, where we look to either side and simply land the nail into the drywall where we want. However, while this may work with a painting or some decorative frame, it will not work with even a small Wall Fountain.

Wall Fountains are usually made of heavy decorative materials like steel, copper, glass, or bronze. Even a small fountain, a few feet square, probably weights twenty pounds by itself before the addition of water (something to consider when receiving and installing your new fountain as well). You need to find studs, the wooden framework of your building, and install the heavy brackets that are included with your fountain, making sure they are securely anchored in the wood. It may be prudent to test the strength of the brackets before simply dropping your new and expensive fountain on them too.

Also you should consider outlet location when placing your fountain. Because a cord will spoil the effect of the piece it may be worthwhile to have an electrician put in a new outlet along an inconspicuous side of the fountain (usually tucked under the bottom edge. Installing a switch on the outlet or on the wall will also allow you turn your fountain off at night or during maintenance much more easily.

Of course, doing this requires you to know ahead of time exactly where your fountain will go and how large it is. Make absolutely certain you know the dimensions, in all three directions, of your new fountain and feel free to mark the corners on the wall itself in pencil before you order to see if you like it.
